A young man died in a terrible houseboating accident at Lake Shasta. At 4:30PM Friday afternoon a family from San Jose had a rented houseboat, and 49-year-old Hector Rivera was pulling the boat onto the shore while his son, 23-year-old Kevin Rivera-Cornejo, was on the back deck by himself. The younger man either jumped or fell in the water but his father was still maneuvering the boat and had placed it in reverse. He heard his son scream and shut off the motor but it was too late. Kevin suffered very severe propeller cuts to his legs. Family members attempted CPR and when deputies arrived they placed tourniquets on his legs, but by the time he was transported to a waiting helicopter at Silverthorn, Kevin Rivera-Cornejo was already deceased.
