Man Sentenced To 14 Years For Attempting To Stab Sergeant With Screwdriver

A man has been sentenced for trying to stab a Tehama County Sheriff’s Sergeant who caught him in the act of a burglary in Corning. Last March 4th, a woman on Woodson Avenue called 911 to report someone breaking into her neighbor’s house. Sergeant Richard Knox arrived and entered the home along with a Corning Police Sergeant. They found 60-year-old Robert Ryan Raymond hiding behind a door in a bedroom. He was told to come out and refused, so the Sergeants tried to grab him. That’s when he began to slash and stab at them with a screwdriver. He made several lunges at Knox and punctured his uniform. Knox sustained some superficial injuries, but was spared being stabbed in the abdomen by his protective vest, which stopped the screwdriver. Raymond grabbed a hold of Knox’s leg and kept trying to stab him until he was subdued with baton strikes. Raymond was convicted of several felony charges, including attempted murder. He’s been sentenced to 14 years in state prison.
