Trinity County’s most famous feature could be the legend of Bigfoot. Now county supervisors are considering protections for the beast, just in case it actually exists, according to the Trinity Journal. A resolution was brought up at a recent meeting to make it a misdemeanor for any premeditated, willful, wanton slaying of Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Yeti or giant hairy ape. The resolution cites evidence of the creature’s possible existence, and notes that Bigfoot hunters armed with lethal weapons could pose a danger to members of the public, or to the creatures themselves. Bigfoot is a big deal in Trinity County and it’s outskirts, particularly Willow Creek in Humboldt County, which has a Bigfoot museum and celebrates Bigfoot Days. The board voted to table the item and bring it back later as a proclamation, which has no teeth, unlike Bigfoot.
