A motorcyclist clearly made mistake when he passed a sheriff’s deputy in Redding Sunday night. Just before 9 O’clock the deputy was on Old Oregon Trail near Viking Way when a dirt bike with no lights and no license plate passed him at high speed. The deputy turned on his lights and siren and went after the rider, chasing him on Viking Way to Abernathy Way, then eastbound on Old Alturas Road at around 60 miles an hour, sometimes in the opposite lane, running two stop signs. As the motorcycle approached Steven Creek Lane, the rider lost control in a dirt lot and laid the bike down. He took off on foot as the deputy yelled for him to stop. After running about 100 yards through the brush, the deputy tackled the man. Identified as 38-year-old Kevin Humphries, he had an expired driver’s license and the motorcycle had been reported stolen. Humphries was booked into jail on multiple charges.
