Monday Update: New Case Result Of Family Gathering

Shasta County’s latest Coronavirus case is a man in his 20’s with symptoms. He had recently attended a large family gathering, and as a result almost 20 of the other people at that gathering are now under quarantine, several of them already showing symptoms. There have now been a total of 50 cases in Shasta County, with 4 deaths. 4 people are in isolation, one of them hospitalized. 41 people are quarantined due to possible exposure. Tehama County has reported a large spike of Coronavirus cases. 9 new cases have been reported for a total of 21, with one fatality. Trinity County has had 2. Butte County has one more for a total of 74, with one death. Humboldt County is up to 112, with two deaths. There have now been 15 in Siskiyou County, 47 in Del Norte County, 24 in Glenn County and 9 in Lassen County. There are still none reported in Modoc County, but they held their first testing clinic last Thursday.

Public health officials are pointing out that prevention efforts that had been driven by a statewide shutdown are no longer in place. Protecting our elderly and other vulnerable family and neighbors is the responsibility of everybody. Masks should be worn in public, social distancing should be maintained, hands should be washed frequently and travel should be avoided. Health and Human Services has created a dashboard to show the county’s current COVID-19 status, with alert levels and indicators of how effective community efforts have been in controlling the virus. A lot of guidance for businesses to reopen safely is available at shastaready.org.
