Cal-Fire investigators have arrested a man who they say intentionally started a series of fires on Monday afternoon near Mountain Gate. Cal-Fire crews made an aggressive initial attack a little before 2 O’clock Monday afternoon on five separate fires near Wonderland Boulevard on the west side of Interstate 5. The fires were contained at a total of around 3 acres. Investigators say evidence collected at the scene led them to 34-year-old Cody Carnes of Redding. Cal-Fire law enforcement officers arrested Carnes at about 9:30AM Wednesday. Fire personnel reported seeing Carnes walking along I-5 in the fire zone and he matched the description of a possible suspect. Carnes was booked into the Shasta County Jail and faces numerous arson charges.
