CHP Investigators believe that drugs and/or alcohol played a factor in a crash that killed a man early Wednesday morning in Tehama County. At around 1AM a black 1989 Toyota pickup was westbound on Gyle Road east of Paskenta Road when it came to a slight curve and drifted off the right side onto the dirt shoulder. The driver overcorrected, pulling the wheel to the left too sharply and losing control. The truck went across the roadway to the other side and overturned in a field. Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing seatbelts and both were ejected from the truck as it rolled. The driver was declared dead at the scene. He was a 24-year-old man with his residence listed as both Petaluma and Rancho Tehama Reserve. The passenger, a 21-year-old woman from Glendale, Arizona, suffered moderate injuries and was taken by helicopter to Mercy Hospital in Redding.
