A fatal crash happened Thursday morning east of Hat Creek. The solo vehicle was found by passing truckers at 5:30AM. It was about 100 feet off the side of Highway 44 and appeared to be unoccupied. The driver was found a short time later and declared dead at the scene. The vehicle is apparently an official vehicle owned by the State of California, so the CHP Major Accident Investigation Team has been called to the scene.
