Redding Firefighters had two fires to deal with Wednesday night that started within an hour of each other. Engines responded to the first fire at around 7:30PM in the Lost Lane area off North Market Street at the Sulphur Creek Hill. Forward progress was stopped in about 20 minutes at 1.5 acres. The cause of that blaze was determined to be arson. The other fire was near the river trail about a mile off North Court Street. When firefighters arrived it was about a half acre and burning up toward homes on Sun River Lane. It was contained in about 10 minutes. It started in a culvert where homeless people had been staying.
