A woman took a wild and chilly ride trying to get away from Redding Police Monday morning. At around 10:20AM officers were called to the Lake Redding Estates about a suspicious subject who apparently had stolen some items out of a city public works truck and was using those items to paint graffiti and commit other acts of vandalism on nearby public and private property. When officers arrived and tried to locate her they figured out she had jumped into the Sacramento River. Officers tracked her from the bridges and a CHP airplane tracked her from the air. She was in the 50 degree water for at least 10 or 15 minutes as she treaded water past Caldwell Park and took the dangerous chute through the diversion dam into the whitewater. She then backstroked to the north shore and dragged herself out of the water. Officers were there waiting for her.
