Redding Police had to deal with a horrible situation in North Redding very early Tuesday morning. Someone called to report that a relative had left them a voicemail saying he had killed his wife and was going to kill himself. Officers headed to the couple’s home on Spanish Bay Drive, located off Twin View next to Gold Hills. They tried to talk to the man at the front door, but he was armed with a knife and said he wanted to die. As they spoke with him, other officers snuck around to the back of the house and looked through the windows, seeing the man’s wife on the living room floor not moving. Officers got inside to see if they could help her and discovered she was already dead. The husband then saw that officers had gotten inside and he walked toward them while stabbing himself with the knife. They used a taser on him, causing him to drop the knife and he was taken into custody and transported to Mercy Hospital. He later died of his injuries. Handwritten notes were found in which the man confessed to the killing. Redding Police had been to the home on domestic violence related calls 9 times since 2018, 3 of which had resulted in his arrest. He was awaiting a court date on one of those arrests. The couples’ names have not yet been made public.
