A father tried to abduct his children Tuesday during a supervised visit at the County Children and Family Services Office, according to Redding Police. 35-year-old Travis Clyde Johnson of Shingletown reportedly grabbed his children, ages 4 and 6, and shoved a county employee out of the way before running away with the kids in his arms. Police say he got about 100 yards before a relative convinced him to release the children unharmed. He continued to flee on his own as police closed in. An officer spotted Johnson near Oregon and Placer Streets but he would not cooperate and challenged officers to fight him. Pepper spray was used and Johnson was struck with a baton but he continued to resist. After multiple warnings, Chase the K9 was set loose on him. He was treated at a hospital for dog bites and other injuries before being booked into jail. Police say two large railroad spikes had been hidden at the county office. Johnson’s intent for the spikes is not known.
