Siskiyou County Sheriff Jon Lopey has announced his retirement, ending a 43 year law enforcement career. He’s currently almost halfway through his third term as sheriff. Lopey says he’s decided to quit early to spend more time with his family, and he’s taken a part-time law enforcement job with a Los Angeles area agency. It’s up to the Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors to appoint an interim sheriff to complete the last two years of the term, and Lopey is recommending his Undersheriff Karl Houtman fore the job. Lopey’s last day will be September 18th.
