The Shasta County Coroner’s Office has identified the two people killed the morning of August 27th in an airplane crash near Benton Airpark in West Redding as 59-year-old Michael Barry Garrett of Redding, who owned the Heavenly Doughnuts shops, and 37-year-old Navraj Singh Chatha of Rodeo. Garrett was piloting the single engine Beechcraft Bonanza and taking off when the plane went down in a canyon area just to the north of the runway across Placer Street, and sparked a brush fire. The two other passengers were badly burned. The National Transportation Safety Board is still investigating the cause of the crash.
