August Complex Threatening Lucrative Cannabis Farm Area

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – California’s largest wildfire is threatening a cannabis-growing enclave, and authorities say many of the locals have refused to evacuate. The Los Angeles Times reports the August Complex is approaching Post Mountain and Trinity Pines. Trinity County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Nate Trujillo says law enforcement officers cannot force residents to leave. The area is located in the Emerald Triangle, a region that by some estimates is the nation’s largest cannabis-producing region. About 1,000 people remained in Post Mountain and Trinity Pines Thursday among a legal cannabis crop estimated at about $20 million.
