A Weaverville man was killed in a head-on collision Monday morning. At 8:10AM, a Ford pickup driven by 21-year-old Nicholas Utne of Redding was westbound on Highway 299 near Little Browns Creek just outside of Weaverville when he came to a curve in the roadway. The CHP says Utne took his eyes off the road and the truck drifted into the eastbound lane, directly into the path of a Chevy pickup driven by 21-year-old Korson Coulter. The impact of the crash sent Coulter’s Chevy off the road and down a dirt hill. Utne’s Ford came to rest blocking the highway. Coulter died at the scene. Utne had minor injuries and refused medical treatment. The CHP does not suspect alcohol or drugs.
