A sting operation targeting Tehama County retailers for tobacco sales to minors showed a high level of non-compliance with the law. The age to legally purchase tobacco products in California is 21. Using state funding, the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office, along with Red Bluff and Corning Police, used a minor decoy try and buy tobacco in two separate operations, one in November and another one on Thursday. The first round involved 13 retail stores, and 5 of them made the sale. In the second round, 15 stores were visited and the minor made purchases at 6 of them. Store clerks who failed the test were given citations.
