What’s In California’s New School Reopening Deal?

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – California Gov. Gavin Newsom and state legislative leaders have announced a plan to get students back in classrooms in the nation’s most populous state. Many students have been out of school and learning online since last March because of the coronavirus. The plan sets aside $2 billion that districts can tap if they offer in-person instruction by March 31. The longer a district waits to offer students the chance to return to the classroom, the less money it gets. The deal also sets aside an additional $4.6 billion to help mitigate learning loss.
