Public Health: 23 Vaccinated People Test Positive For COVID-19

Shasta County’s Coronavirus death toll remains at 219. Another 36 cases have been reported, as well as 855 negative tests. There have been 11,779 cases so far. An estimated 149 people have the virus right now, 8 people are hospitalized and 3 are in intensive care.

Public health says 23 people in Shasta County tested positive for COVID-19 after being vaccinated, but only 5 of them had symptoms. This supports the advice to continue to weak a mask in public.

The South African Variant of Coronavirus that has shown up in 6 patients in Shasta County has killed 4 of them. All 6 patients are connected, but the variant is more contagious and deadly than the original COVID-19. Vaccine is still showing to be effective in protecting against the variants.

Shasta County has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the state. Public health says the only was to beat the pandemic is for a large part of the population be immune.
