The Trinity Alps Wilderness area is under a closure order by the Shasta-Trinity, Six Rivers and Klamath National Forests, all of which share jurisdiction of the wilderness. The closure is being done for a few reasons. One is to reduce the risk of accidental fire and its effect on overtaxed resources. Another is that access to trails is being cut off by the various forest fires and hikers have had to reroute when their planned routes become unpassable. In some cases this adds many miles to their hikes. If hikers become injured or lost and need a rescue, the availability of aircraft is stretched very thin right now.
