Public Health Reports 1st Fully Vaccinated Death In Shasta County

A man in his 80s is the first Covid vaccinated person in Shasta County known to have died from the virus. In the last several weeks there has been a sharp increase in Covid cases among the unvaccinated population. Of the 75 people hospitalized with Covid in the past 3 months, only 5 of them were vaccinated. In that same time from, about 1% of the confirmed cases were vaccinated. Most of the recent cases are believed to be the more contagious Delta Variant. Those who have received the vaccine are much less likely to get seriously ill or die. Another 96 cases were reported on Tuesday. Testing is done at the Boggs Building on Breslauer Way in South Redding Monday through Friday from 9:30AM to 5:30PM. A vaccine clinic is open at the Redding Senior Center on Benton Drive each Friday through Sunday from 10AM to 7PM, with other options available at myturn.ca.gov.
