Shasta County Public Health says local hospitalizations due to Covid have doubled in a week, with 68 people in the hospital and 14 in the ICU. The highest number of people hospitalized during the pandemic was 72 last December. Another 207 cases were confirmed over the weekend. Officials say vaccines are safe and effective, even against the Delta Variant. The small number of vaccinated people who get Covid usually only have mild cases. Shasta County has one of the state’s lowest vaccination rates. A free walk-in vaccine clinic is open at the Redding Senior Center on Benton Drive each Friday through Sunday from 10AM to 7PM, with other options available at myturn.ca.gov.
