A man was arrested off Hilltop Drive Tuesday afternoon after reportedly waving around what looked like a handgun. Police say 57-year-old Michael Pine Brierly of Redding was in the Goodwill parking lot shortly before 3 O’clock waving the item around, pointing it at people and cars. He briefly went into a store then came back out and started driving through the parking lot, apparently pointing the suspected handgun out his driver’s side window and sunroof, continuing to scare people. Officers surrounded Brierly’s car and took him into custody. The item turned out to be a novelty cigarette lighter that was made to look like a gun.
