A Redding man has reached a plea deal in the stabbing death of his 68-year-old mother. On the afternoon of April 10th last year, Joan McKenzie was found in a pool of blood at her home on Edgewood Drive in east Redding. She had been stabbed multiple times. While Redding Police Officers were en route, they intercepted Joan’s son, 34-year-old Nicholas McKenzie, on Old Alturas Road near Victor Avenue. Joan later died from her injuries. Investigators found evidence and witnesses linking Nicholas to the murder. Thursday, McKenzie pled guilty to 2nd degree murder and a special allegation for use of a deadly weapon. He’ll be sentenced next month to 16-years-to-life in state prison.
