15-Year-Old Boy Killed After Crashing Stolen Car, Two Other Teens Suffer Major Injuries

A fleeing unlicensed teenager in a stolen car caused the death of one of his passengers early Sunday morning, according to Redding Police. At 3AM an RPD Officer spotted a 2017 Honda accord that was reported stolen Friday. It was heading north on Churn Creek Road at Cypress Avenue. The officer went after it and turned on his emergency lights when the car reached Mistletoe. The Honda driver shut off his headlights and sped away west on Mistletoe. For safety’s sake the officer did not chase the car, but followed its route as it ran the light at Hilltop and went south. When the stolen Honda reached Cypress it collided with a new Nissan Sentra and overturned, coming to rest in the Circle K parking lot on its roof with some of the 5 juvenile occupants ejected. A 15-year-old boy died at the scene. Two other boys, the 15-year-old driver and a 16-year-old, were hospitalized with major injuries. Two 15-year-old girls fled the scene. One was found nearby while the other was given a ride home but later contacted. The driver is still in the hospital, and the DA’s Office is working on the case. The 42-year-old woman driving the Nissan had moderate injuries.
