Another 216 new cases of Covid were reported in Shasta County on Tuesday alone, and 25% of them are children between the ages of 5 and 17. There’s no vaccine for children under 12-years-old. Shasta County Office of Education officials say many schools are on the verge of closing due to staffing shortages, but distance learning is not allowed due to a law passed by the state legislature. There are 87 Covid patients in the hospital, and a new record high of 26 in the ICU. In the last 3 months there have been 20 fatalities, and only one of them was a vaccinated person. In that same time period there have been 150 people hospitalized and only 12 were vaccinated. Testing and vaccinations are free, with many options at shastaready.org.
Redding’s historic Cascade Theatre has implemented a stringent Coronavirus policy. Anyone who enters the theatre, as an audience member, a performer, or in any other capacity, must show proof of either full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test within the previous 72 hours. Masks will also be required regardless of vaccination or testing status. Questions about the policy can be emailing to firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 243-8877.
