Shasta County has the highest Covid-19 case rate in California, at 715 per 100,000 people. Another 174 new Covid cases were reported from Monday. The majority, 125 of them, are under age 50. There are 941 known cases in the community, 86 in the hospital and 24 in the ICU. Vaccination is highly effective, but public health officials have been in a constant battle to refute misinformation about the vaccines, and about other treatments that are purported to work but are ineffectual or dangerous. Anyone who’s been exposed or tested positive should follow the isolation instructions at shastaready.org. That’s also where information on testing and vaccinations can be found.
