The group pushing for a recall of three Shasta County Supervisors is seeking more time for their signature gathering efforts. The Shasta County General Purposes Committee/Recall Shasta, with the support of Supervisor Patrick Jones and the significant financial support of former county resident and vineyard owner Reverge Anselmo, are trying to force a special election for the recall of Supervisors Joe Chimenti, Mary Rickert and Leonard Moty. The group has been gathering petition signatures in the three effected districts, and they face a quickly approaching deadline of next Wednesday. A lawsuit has been filed this week against the County and Clerk Cathy Darling-Allen. The suit seeks an extension of time for signature gathering, which they claim has been curtailed by the smoky air from Northern California wildfires. The cost of the special election, if all three targets are on the ballot, is estimated at $640,000.
