Drivers should always keep an eye out for youngsters walking to and from school, but Wednesday that’s extra important because it’s the 25th annual “International Walk to School Day”. Volunteers, teachers, principals and parents will lead groups of students on foot to participating schools. Thousands of students are expected to participate. Some of them will be organized as “walking school busses”, moving as a group for better visibility. Walk to School Day is organized by Healthy Shasta as part of “Walktober”, the community walking challenge. Students and schools can track their walking attendance to win prizes. Adults can also participate in “Walktober” in groups of coworkers or friends by signing up at healthyshastawalks.org.
