Blue Santa spread some cheer over the weekend for the 30th year. Coordinated by the Redding Peace Officers Association and Redding Police Department, Operation Blue Santa was introduced in 1991, delivering Christmas cheer to three Redding families that first year. This year, 30 families with more than 84 children were be provided gifts and other holiday cheer by the Blue Santa Team. That even includes a grocery gift card to buy dinner for the entire family. The packages were delivered Saturday by the blue-clad Santa Clause accompanied by officers and volunteers. The team also made their annual stops at One Safe Place and the Mercy Medical Center Pediatric Ward. They brought enough candy-filled stockings and stuffed animals to be able to present them to any kid they happened to meet along the way. Donations to the operation Blue Santa Program can be made at reddingpeaceofficers.org.
