Amid a sharp decline in cases and following more than a week of no reported fatalities, 10 new deaths by Covid were reported in Shasta County Tuesday. Ages ranged from their 60s to over age 89. Another 26 new cases were reported. There are 126 known active cases in Shasta County, 44 are hospitalized, and 12 are in the ICU. The state is requiring masks for all indoor public places, regardless of vaccination status. Public health officials say COVID-19, the common cold, seasonal allergies and the flu all have similar symptoms. All but allergies are caused by viruses. A vaccination clinic will take place Thursday at the First United Methodist Church at South and East Streets in Downtown Redding. All vaccines and boosters will be available and many languages will be spoken. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Information on free testing or vaccination options can be found at shastaready.org.
