Shasta County Public Health says some very young children have been getting very sick with COVID-19 in recent weeks, including some hospitalizations. No vaccine has been approved for children under the age of 5, so it’s important to protect them from being exposed. No new fatalities were reported Thursday. Another 45 new cases were reported. There are 300 known active cases in Shasta County, 48 are hospitalized, and 14 are in the ICU. The state has extended to the middle of February a requirement that everyone- regardless of vaccination status- wear a mask in indoor public spaces and workplaces. Information on free testing or vaccination options can be found at shastaready.org.
