The COVID-19 death rate over the past three months is expected to be far greater than reported so far because of the many deaths pending confirmation. There were 87 Shasta County Covid deaths in September, which is the most recent month that data is considered to be complete. Another four deaths were reported Friday. They were a man in his 40s, a woman in her 50s, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 70s. Another 168 new cases were reported. There are more than a thousand known cases, though many more are believed to be unreported. There are 60 in the hospital and 11 in the ICU. The state has sent 7,740 free at-home test kits, which can be picked up at the three Shasta County libraries or Shasta College. Details on testing and vaccinations are at shastaready.org.
