Cal-Trans has crews cutting down trees in the large wooded median of Interstate 5 between Wilcox Golf Road and Sunset Hills Road in Tehama County. The work, which began Wednesday, will take about a week to complete. There shouldn’t be any impact on traffic during the daytime, but overnight lane closures may begin Thursday night. Trees growing close to the traffic lanes are being taken out. Cal-Trans is preparing for a project in the springtime that will widen the shoulders for what’s called a “Clear Recovery Zone”, a roadside area where vehicles can pull off when necessary without going over a cliff or colliding with a tree. The tree cutting work is being done now because migratory birds aren’t nesting this time of year.
