A Redding man pleaded guilty Tuesday to dealing Heroin and Fentanyl. Tuesday also happened to be “Fentanyl Awareness Day” according to the District Attorney’s Office. In February Redding Police did a probation search at the home of 38-year-old Kevin Smith at an apartment complex on Boulder Creek Drive. As officers approached Smith’s apartment, they saw items being thrown out the apartment’s rear window. Inside they found Smith with a large amount of money and a man who had apparently absconded from parole in Utah. Items found outside the window included an Ounce of Fentanyl, a large quantity of Xanax pills, a scale and some Heroin. Smith admitted that he buys Fentanyl by the Ounce in San Francisco and brings it to sell in Shasta County. He pled guilty Tuesday to multiple counts of possessing, transporting and selling Fentanyl and Heroin. The terms of his plea call for an 11 year prison sentence.
