Highway 44 in the Shingletown area was closed Thursday afternoon for a while until a gunman was taken into custody. The intoxicated suspect, identified as 31-year-old Blake Lahui of Redding, crashed his SUV on Ponderosa Way, leaving the roadway blocked as he got a ride to Shingletown. Multiple 9-1-1 callers reported him stumbling down Highway 44 brandishing a pistol. When a CHP helicopter arrived he started shooting at it until the pilot ascended out of range. After firing a few more rounds Lahui’s intoxication got the better of him and he passed out. He was taken into custody and the semi auto 9 millimeter handgun was recovered.
