A pot bust was made Friday between Millville and Shingletown. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Marijuana Eradication Team, with help from State Fish and Wildlife, SINTF and Code Enforcement, served a search warrant on private property off Highway 44 a little west of Dersch Road. 61-year-old James Edward Toney Sr and his son, 34-year-old James Jr, were detained. Jr’s children, aged 10 and 13, were taken by county children’s services. The father and son lived across the road from each other and reportedly had a high-yield cultivation set-up on their combined properties. The sheriff’s office says 4 Quonset-shaped greenhouse structures and a detached garage on Toney Sr’s property contained 1,352 plants in various stages of growth, and a 9 millimeter handgun. Another 938 growing plants were reportedly found on Jr’s property, including 488 inside a bedroom of their home, as well as 121 pounds of processed bud, 2 loaded handguns, a bolt-action rifle and body armor. Toney Jr. has had a felony conviction and is prohibited from having guns. Both men were booked into jail on multiple charges.
