Redding Police have released an analysis of property crime statistics. Most categories dropped in 2021 compared to 2020, showing the overall numbers down 8%. Burglaries dropped by 16% and larceny by 25%. However, one startling detail is that vehicle thefts have shot up by 151%. There’s a reasonable explanation for this. 2020 had only 198 vehicle thefts, and this was likely due to Covid lockdowns and a drop in traveling away from home. Last year’s 497 vehicle thefts is actually not bad compared to 539 in 2018 and 791 in 2017. All the statistics can be seen through a link on the KQMS Facebook Page.
