Nurses Strike at SRMC

Nurses are in the midst of a one-day strike at Shasta Regional Medical Center to demand better pay and working conditions. The California Nurses Association says it represents almost 350 nurses at Shasta Regional. They say that the hospital does not follow state-mandated nurse-to-patient ratios, and that pay needs to be boosted to recruit and retain RNs due to staff attrition. The CNA says nurses have been in negotiations for a new contract since May of last year, and they voted May 4th to authorize a strike. The strike is scheduled to continue for 24 hours, from 6 o’clock Thursday morning to 6 o’clock Friday morning, with pickets on the Butte Street side of the hospital.
