This year’s Shasta District Fair, last Wednesday through Saturday, had a total of 65,360 paid attendees counted at its gates. That’s significantly fewer than last year, which saw a 24% boost from 2019. There was no fair in 2020 because of the pandemic, but the Junior Livestock Auction was still held thanks to some vigorous lobbying with state health officials by County Health Officer Karen Ramstrom. This year’s Junior Livestock Auction brought in a total of $2,044,860.01 from 531 animals, not quite reaching last year’s total of over $2.2 Million. The animals were raised by 4H and FFA students from throughout the district.
