Cal-Fire crews got a good jump on a vegetation fire west of Redding Saturday afternoon. The fire started along Highway 299 near Swasey Drive. It may have been sparked by a vehicle that got a flat tire and the rim hit the asphalt and threw sparks. The fire was held to less than an acre.
A fire broke out behind the Safeway in Anderson Sunday. About 3 acres was burning in an open field of dry grass at around 1 O’clock when Anderson Fire Department and Cal-Fire crews arrived. The fire spread toward Interstate Five and the smoke caused some visibility problems before the fire was contained at around 5 acres. The cause is not known.
A fire early Sunday morning destroyed a house near the southeast edge of Anderson off Deschutes Road at Green Acres Drive.
