10:30AM Friday: Some Evacuations Lifted For Peter Fire Near Anderson

Forward progress on the peter fire was stopped Thursday night at 304 acres. The fire is 35% contained at last word. The blaze started as a structure fire on Peter Pan Gulch just west of Anderson at around 3 O’clock and rapidly tore through oak woodland and homes. 12 structures are confirmed destroyed, though it’s not yet clear how many of those are homes. Some mandatory evacuations remain in effect, including all roads connected to Spring Gulch Road west of Missouri Lane. There’s still an evacuation warning for all streets off Parallel Road and Jacqueline Street. Residents east of the intersection of Third Street and Missouri Lane to Highway 273 may return home, as well as La Colina Terrace, Beacon Drive and Diamond Street. West Valley High School is still open as a Red Cross evacuation shelter. The Redding Rodeo Grounds has been serving as an evacuation point for large animals and livestock. A very large air tanker was dispatched Thursday from McClellan Air Force Base to join the other resources, which have now been reduced to 3 helicopters, 44 engine companies, 18 water tenders, 1 dozer and 15 hand crews. Disaster relief is available for affected veterans and their dependants from the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 197, who can be reached at 275-5212.
